La Pine is a rural community located in southern Deschutes County near the Newberry Volcanic National Monument and Paulina Peak, home of East Lake and Paulina Lake (where the state record Brown Trout was caught). A seven square mile portion of La Pine has recently incorporated making La Pine Oregon's newest city as of January 1, 2007.
The Cascade Lakes region of Central Oregon surrounds La Pine. Tourists are attracted to the region by recreational activities that include hunting, fishing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, wind surfing, backpacking, camping, golfing, mountain biking, white water rafting, spelunking, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling.
